My name is Maria Alexandra Alarcón, the daughter of Maria Nora Pino Gallego and Fabio Alarcón. My farm is Finca Los Olivos, named for the previous owners, and we have 2.5 hectares. The farm was acquired 8 years ago through a government program, called INCODER. I’ve been cultivating the Colombia varietal because in my region we have learned this was the best varietal to grow and it is resistant to diseases. During these years, the Colombian variety has proved itself with good production, physical and sensorial quality.

Thanks to our good agricultural practices, In 2018 I achieved a cup score of 85 points. The experience gained allowed me to replicate this same cup score result in 2019.

Because of coffee I managed to gain superior education program, graduating as a technician in coffee companies.

I think the most useful time for a coffee farmer is talking with an agronomist. It is exciting being able to combine what is learned from them with what I’ve learned from my parents and from other sources. Having this farm has helped me to support my family.
